The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia has announced that it prevented terrorist attacks targeting Jewish religious sites in the Krasnoyarsk and Stavropol regions, Kommersant reports.

Accordingly, these attacks were planned by supporters of an international terrorist organization banned in Russia.

In Krasnoyarsk city, security services detained two individuals from a Central Asian country, who were allegedly planning to detonate an improvised explosive device inside the city’s synagogue. A criminal case has been opened on charges of preparing a terrorist attack and aiding terrorist activities.

In Pyatigorsk city of the Stavropol region, a Russian national was arrested for planning to set fire to a Jewish religious community building. Authorities seized bottles filled with incendiary mixture, two knives, and communication devices containing correspondence with a “foreign coordinator of criminal activities.” A criminal case been launched on charges of preparing a terrorist attack.

Earlier this year, in March, the FSB had reported foiling a planned terrorist attack on a synagogue in the Moscow region. And in August, two teenagers were arrested in Obninsk city for attempting to set a synagogue on fire.
