The initialing of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan is already a “historic juncture,” European Union (EU) Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said in an interview with the Azerbaijani Trend News Agency.

According to her, following the initialing of this peace agreement, the South Caucasus is going through a profound transformation.

Kos noted that the EU is ready to support Azerbaijan and use this opportunity to raise relations to a new political level.

She emphasized that it is precisely in the current geopolitical context that regional transport links are acquiring a higher political status for both the EU and Azerbaijan.

Kos added that the region’s potential can be unleashed by “by bridging Central Asia and Europe,” and that the EU intends to strengthen cooperation in mobility, energy and digital connectivity.

Also, she recalled that the EU welcomes the initialing of the aforesaid peace agreement, and that its final signing and ratification will be a turning point that will put an end to “past conflicts,” and enable the region to enter a new phase of development.

Marta Kos stated that Azerbaijan can count on the EU’s continued support in the normalization process, “including initiatives on possible cross-border and regional cooperation, reconciliation efforts and humanitarian issues.”
