The newspaper Zhoghovurd of Armenia writes as follows, in particular: Zhoghovurd daily has uncovered exclusive details regarding the detention conditions of those arrested in connection with the high-profile criminal case over the murder of Valodya Grigoryan, head of the enlarged Parakar community. As is known, Narek Ohanyan and Gevorg Harutyunyan have been arrested in this case.

However, Zhoghovurd has found out from its sources close to law enforcement that the matter of their detention has become a serious challenge. According to the same sources, after their arrest, an attempt was made to transfer them to the Armavir Penitentiary Institution, but that request was effectively rejected there for security reasons. There are well-founded fears that the murder of the well-liked community leader Valodya Grigoryan could become a reason for revenge even behind prison walls.

Law enforcement system has concern that any one of Grigoryan’s supporters may have connections inside the penitentiary and could attempt to take revenge. The case, ultimately, also involves the murder of police operative Karen Abrahamyan, which only further exacerbates the situation.

Against this backdrop, law enforcement has decided to transfer Narek Ohanyan and Gevorg Harutyunyan to the Nubarashen Penitentiary Institution, where they are now being held under strictly supervised quarantine conditions. In particular, according to Zhoghovurd daily’s information, they are being kept in a special quarantine unit to remain completely isolated from other detainees. It should be noted that Valodya Grigoryan was considered an influential community figure with numerous supporters.

His murder was a shock for the community, and public sentiment toward those involved in the case is extremely negative. And this public mood has compelled law enforcement to act according to a non-standard scenario — prioritizing ensuring maximum security, even if it means completely cutting the detainees off from the outside world and contact with the prison environment.
