Acting Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu stated that the dissolution of the French parliament now seems unlikely after he held several rounds of talks with various political parties, France 24 reports.
Lecornu said that these talks demonstrated a shared willingness to adopt the country’s state budget before the end of the year.
“It is clear that this willingness creates momentum and convergence that make the possibility of dissolution more remote,” he said during his remarks in the courtyard of Hotel Matignon, the official residence of the French prime minister.
The acting French premier added that he would meet with President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday evening to discuss the results of his talks with the political parties.
Previously, the French opposition — and even some government supporters — had called for the dissolution of parliament and the holding of snap parliamentary elections.
