Varduhi Melikyan, Counselor of the Permanent Mission of Armenia to the United Nations, delivered a statement at the UN General Assembly 80 Sixth Committee under agenda item “The Rule of Law at National and International Levels,” informs the aforesaid mission.
Melikyan underlined that with the adoption of the UN Charter, Member States collectively pledged to uphold the principle of the rule of law as the foundation for the new world order.
Guided by the objectives of the Charter and the principles of international law, the United Nations has become the central platform for multilateral dialogue, conflict de-escalation, the protection of human rights, the advancement of sustainable development, and the codification of international law.
Despite the remarkable progress achieved over the decades, the world has not always lived up to the ideals enshrined in the Charter. Growing violations of international law, selective adherence to legal obligations, inconsistent enforcement, and the persistence of power politics have undermined global confidence in the rule of law.
Armenia is committed to fulfill its international obligations and to integrate them effectively into its national legal framework.
