Speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament, Sahiba Gafarova, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the third trilateral meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Turkey, Azerbaijani media report.
According to her, following the bilateral talks held in Washington this August, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia initialed the text of a peace agreement, with the participation of the leaders of the United States, Azerbaijan, and Armenia.
It was noted that the president of Azerbaijan and the prime minister of Armenia signed a joint declaration, with US President Donald Trump as witness. Gafarova expressed confidence that “with the implementation of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity project, the Zangezur corridor will become an important transport hub of Eurasia.”
For his part, speaker of the Turkish parliament, Numan Kurtulmus, stated that “the launch of the Zangezur corridor will strengthen the economic and political ties among the countries of the region and will also enhance the strategic significance of the Middle Corridor.” To recall, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had earlier publicly requested clarification from the president of Azerbaijan regarding Baku authorities’ use of the term “Zangezur corridor,” and called on to show it on the map.
