Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan can help end Russia’s war against Ukraine, US President Donald Trump has said.

Trump held a press briefing aboard Air Force One, which he used to return to Washington after his visit to the Middle East.

Reporters asked him whether the Turkish leader could help end the war between Russia and Ukraine.

“He's [Erdogan] respected by Russia. Ukraine, I can't tell you about, but he is respected by [Russian President Vladimir] Putin. (…). I get along with the tough ones. I don't get along with the weak ones,” Trump said.

The US president noted that he does not know what that is, but Erdogan has been “great” with him.

“You know, when NATO has a problem with Erdogan, which they often do, they call me to talk to him, and I've never failed with working it out with him immediately,” the US president added.
