The lower house of the French Parliament, the National Assembly, voted against the opposition’s motion of no confidence in Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu’s government, reports BFMTV.

“[A total of] 271 votes were cast in favor of adopting the vote of no confidence. The majority required for the decision was not gathered. The vote of no confidence was not adopted,” National Assembly speaker Yael Braun-Pivet announced after the vote count.

At least 289 votes are needed for the government to be dismissed.

Later on Thursday, another vote will take place on a separate opposition proposal to express no confidence in the government.
