Russia and the United States should be connected by a tunnel through the Bering Strait, “symbolizing unity” of Moscow and Washington, Kirill Dmitriev, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special representative for economic cooperation with foreign countries and CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), stated on X.

Also, Dmitriev highlighted documents released by 35th US President John F. Kennedy, which included a similar tunnel project. This Soviet-American project was to be called the “Kennedy–Khrushchev World Peace Bridge.” Dmitriev proposed naming the new project the “Putin-Trump Tunnel.”

According to him, this transport corridor would provide opportunities for the joint development of resources.

Moreover, this 112-kilometer tunnel would create jobs and boost the economies of both countries, Dmitriev said.

He added that the project’s cost could be significantly lower than the traditional estimate of $65 billion. In particular, using technology from American billionaire Elon Musk’s The Boring Company, this tunnel could be built for less than $8 billion, the RDIF head emphasized.

He estimated that this project will be completed in approximately eight years.

“Let's build a future together!” the Russian president’s special envoy urged.

Kirill Dmitriev made this proposal following Thursday’s phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
