Azerbaijan plans to give the center of Azerbaijani-occupied Nagorno-Karabakh’s Shushi city the appearance it had back in the 1970s and 1980s. This idea was voiced by Azerbaijani official Muslum Imranli during an event dedicated to urban development.

“We will be able to restore the historical center of Shusha [i.e. Shushi] in quite a detailed manner. However, the restoration process is very expensive and time-consuming, so it will take a long time,” he said.

Imranli stated that architect Elturan Avalov’s archives contain important materials reflecting “the historical appearance of Shusha.”

“The city has been destroyed several times, and we are finding traces of that in the old archives,” Muslum Imranli added, in particular.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Shushi — which the aforesaid Azerbaijani official refers to by the distorted name “Shusha” — was part of Azerbaijan SSR. The use of previously unpublished and possibly falsified photographs, combined with the expulsion of the entire native Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh, gives the Azerbaijani authorities wide opportunity to falsify the architecture of this ancient Armenian city. One can only imagine what the center of Shushi will look like after such a “restoration.”
