An Emirates Boeing 747 cargo aircraft skidded off the runway at Hong Kong International Airport, collided with a ground crew vehicle, and ended up in the sea, Reuters reports.

A serious aviation accident occurred at Hong Kong International Airport when an Emirates Boeing 747-481 cargo plane arriving from Dubai veered off the runway after landing and plunged into the sea.

According to preliminary information, the aircraft struck an airport ground service vehicle positioned on the runway. The impact caused the plane to lose control, break through the safety barrier, and fall into the water.

The service vehicle, which was carrying two people, also fell into the sea along with the aircraft. Their fate remains unknown — the workers are currently listed as missing, and search and rescue operations are ongoing. Rescuers note that the risk of fatalities is high, as the collision was sudden and the vehicle sank quickly.

Emergency services, divers, and firefighting units have arrived at the scene. The airport’s northern runway has been temporarily closed, and passengers are advised to expect delays and changes in flight schedules.
