U.S. President Donald Trump once again emphasized that his proposal is to preserve the current positions of Russia and Ukraine along the front line.

“We believe they should simply stop where they are, at the front line,” he told reporters on Sunday aboard the presidential aircraft Air Force One, according to Reuters.

When asked by Reuters whether he had told Volodymyr Zelensky that Ukraine should hand over all of Donbas to Russia, Trump replied in the negative. “Let it be divided as it is. It’s divided now. I think about 78% of the territory is already occupied by Russia,” Trump said.

Earlier, The Washington Post, citing sources familiar with the content of Trump’s phone conversation with Vladimir Putin on Thursday, reported that the Russian president insisted on Russia taking control of the remaining part of the Donetsk region. Later, The Financial Times wrote that on Friday, Trump had urged Zelensky to agree to Russia’s proposals.
