Germany plans to purchase an additional 15 F‑35 fighter jets from the United States for around €2.5 billion, Der Spiegel reported, citing documents.
The Bundeswehr’s air force already operates 35 aircraft of this model, but Berlin says it needs to expand its fleet to meet NATO’s new requirements for member air forces.
On October 8, the Bundestag budget committee approved a set of procurement projects from the Defense Ministry totaling more than €7 billion. In particular, this included the purchase of Eurofighter jets for €3.75 billion. Deliveries are expected between 2031 and 2034. The exact number of Eurofighters to be bought was not specified, but Der Spiegel reported it would be about 20 aircraft.
