Azerbaijan will soon begin producing satellites, APA reports. Dunay Badirkhanov, acting head of the “Azercosmos” board, announced this at an event titled “Opportunities from Space: Our 10-Year Contribution to Socio-Economic Development through Space Observation.”
According to Badirkhanov, concrete steps have already been taken in this direction.
“Over the past year and a half, despite a challenging political situation, our research and development team has undergone intensive training in Israel as part of the ‘Azersky-2’ satellite production project. The design and engineering work for the spacecraft development center has been completed, which will include a satellite production facility and accommodations for production personnel. The site for the center has already been selected, and construction will begin in the coming months.
For our satellite, we have chosen SpaceX as the launch provider.”
Additionally, Badirkhanov noted that, for the first time in Azercosmos’s history, a subsidiary has been created—the Spacecraft Development and Production LLC. This subsidiary will facilitate the more efficient implementation of spacecraft production projects.
