A 44-year-old man has been charged in connection with an attempted arson at the headquarters of the Civic Platform (Platforma Obywatelska) party, led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, RMF24 reports.

The incident occurred Friday evening at 12A Wiejska Street in Warsaw. According to the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office, the man approached the building, broke a bottle filled with flammable liquid, and attempted to set the front of the building on fire.

An employee at the scene tried to intervene and prevent the fire, leading to a confrontation with the suspect. He has also been charged with assaulting the person who tried to stop the arson.

Prosecutor Petro Antoni Skiba stated that the man faces charges for threatening fire or causing significant property damage and for attacking the individual who attempted to prevent the arson. The prosecution has requested a three-month detention for him.

The suspect denies the charges, although he gave a statement partially describing the events. Investigators are looking into whether he acted alone and whether political motives were involved.

According to RMF24, the man was already known to the police. In May of this year, he was arrested on suspicion of making death threats against Prime Minister Donald Tusk. He later posted threatening messages on the X social media platform, which led to a criminal case.

Authorities are now investigating whether his actions near the party headquarters are linked to his previous threats and the seriousness of his intentions.
