Azerbaijani media have reported some details of the criminal case filed against Ramiz Mehdiyev, former head of the Azerbaijani presidential administration.

According to APA, the State Security Service (SSS) carried out comprehensive operational and technical measures around Ramiz Mehdiyev long before the initiation of the criminal case against him.

There is a decision from the Sabail District Court dated August 13, 2025, authorizing these measures.

This week, Mehdiyev’s lawyers filed appeals against several decisions made before his placement under house arrest. They reviewed the materials of the criminal case initiated by the SSS as well as the decisions of the Sabail District Court issued at the request of the SSS.

According to reports, the interception of communications, as well as searches of the Şərq-Qərb publishing house and other addresses, were carried out based on this court decision.

Previously, media reports listed only Zaur Abiyev as Mehdiyev’s lawyer. APA reports that Mehdiyev actually has three lawyers, having hired two additional ones whose names have not yet been disclosed.

Earlier, on October 14, the Sabail District Court in Baku placed Mehdiyev under four months of house arrest.

In the criminal case initiated by the State Security Service, he has been charged under Article 278.1 of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code (actions aimed at seizing state power), Article 274 (state treason), and Article 193-1.3.2 (legalization of property obtained through criminal means).

Ramiz Mehdiyev served as head of Aliyev’s administration from 1995 to 2019.
