U.S. President Donald Trump has said that he “doesn’t want to waste unnecessary time” after his plans for a personal meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, regarding the war in Ukraine were postponed, BBC News reports.

Speaking at the White House on Tuesday, the U.S. president noted that Moscow’s refusal to halt military operations along the current front line remains a major obstacle.

Earlier, a White House spokesperson stated that there are no plans for a meeting between Trump and Putin in the “near future,” following Trump’s announcement on Thursday that they would hold talks in Budapest within two weeks. The main disagreements between the U.S. and Russia’s peace proposals have become increasingly apparent this week, seemingly blocking any possibility of a summit.

Trump and Putin last met in Alaska in August. According to BBC News, the White House’s decision to postpone a second meeting between Trump and Putin may be seen as an attempt to avoid a repeat of a similar scenario.
