PreferredDuring the Silk Road Forum in Georgia, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan commented on the supply of wheat from Kazakhstan to Armenia via Azerbaijan.
He explained that the previously presented “Peace Crossroads” project aims to develop regional and international transport communications through Armenia—not only with Georgia and Iran but also with Azerbaijan and Turkey—by opening borders with these countries.
Pashinyan said, “I am pleased to note significant progress in this direction. On August 8, with the initiative and support of President Donald Trump, we signed a Peace Declaration in Washington with the President of Azerbaijan, witnessed by Trump. The declaration pays special attention to regional connectivity.”
He added that Azerbaijan has taken an important step to implement this part of the declaration. “President Aliyev announced yesterday that Azerbaijan is lifting restrictions on the transit of goods to Armenia through its territory. I want to express my appreciation for this step and welcome the announcement. What seemed impossible just a few months ago is now happening: wheat is being imported to Armenia from Kazakhstan via Azerbaijan and Georgia. I want to thank the President of Kazakhstan and the Prime Minister of Georgia for this arrangement.”
Pashinyan also noted that, according to the Washington Declaration, Armenia will cooperate with the U.S. and mutually agreed third parties to determine the framework for implementing the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” project within Armenian territory. He emphasized Armenia’s commitment to taking all necessary measures to achieve this goal swiftly.
