One person was injured in a shooting near the Serbian parliament building in central Belgrade, where a tent camp of supporters of President Aleksandar Vučić is located, according to reports by Politika and Telegraf.

The incident occurred in a park situated between the parliament and Vučić’s office, where his supporters had set up tents to block protesters from approaching the government buildings. At the time of the shooting, no protests were taking place.

Serbian Health Minister Zlatibor Lončar stated that an armed man opened fire in the tent camp and then attempted to start a fire. A 57-year-old man was injured and hospitalized. The shooter has been detained.

President Aleksandar Vučić described the incident as a terrorist act.

Mass protests in Serbia began after a concrete canopy collapsed over the entrance to the railway station in Novi Sad in the fall of 2024, killing 16 people. Since then, demonstrators have regularly taken to the streets, demanding not only accountability for those responsible but also the resignation of the country’s leadership. Some demonstrations have ended in clashes with police. In response, government supporters set up a tent camp in a park near the Serbian parliament.
