The International Court of Justice (ICJ) confirmed on Wednesday that Israel’s attempts to obstruct aid to Palestinians are illegal, according to Turkey’s Foreign Ministry. The advisory opinion addresses Israel’s obligations regarding the presence of international organizations in Palestinian territories.

“The ICJ’s advisory opinion clearly shows that Israel, contrary to its international obligations, is violating the law in the occupied Palestinian territories. Israel’s failure to meet its international obligations, its ongoing crimes against the Palestinian people, obstruction of humanitarian aid, and attacks on UN facilities and personnel constitute challenges to international law. Israel’s attempts to weaken the authority of the UN and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), as well as its activities and presence in the occupied territories, are illegal,” the statement reads.

“Turkey will continue to support the Palestinian people in their just struggle and will resolutely promote the effective application of international law and efforts to achieve justice,” the Foreign Ministry added.

The ICJ hearings on Israel’s legal obligations regarding UN operations in Palestinian territories were held from April 28 to May 2. The court received a total of 45 written submissions from various countries, including Turkey, and from international organizations.
