The Trump administration has lifted a key restriction on Ukraine’s use of certain long-range missiles provided by Western allies for strikes into Russian territory, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing sources.

According to the newspaper, U.S. officials expect Ukraine to carry out more attacks using Storm Shadow missiles. The United States can limit their use because these missiles rely on American targeting data.

At the end of his presidency, U.S. President Joe Biden had allowed Ukraine to use Storm Shadow and ATACMS long-range missiles against targets in Russia. However, after Donald Trump took office, the procedures for using these missiles became more complicated, and until recently the U.S. was not authorizing strikes with Western long-range weapons.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the authority to approve such strikes was recently transferred to U.S. European Command, according to two American officials.
