Training to operate the long‑range Tomahawk cruise missiles requires at least six months, and usually a year, U.S. President Donald Trump said at a press conference after a meeting in Washington with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Trump cited the length of training as a reason why it would be difficult to transfer those missiles to Kyiv. He had hinted at the possibility of supplying them last Friday ahead of his White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but later clarified that it would not happen. Without such training, Trump said, Ukrainian forces could fire Tomahawks only “if we do it — and we won’t,” the U.S. president explained.

At the same time, the United States has no plans to train foreign military personnel from other countries to use Tomahawk missiles, Trump added.
