“I know that a process is underway, various people have been questioned, and it is very important to note what served as the basis for this statement,” Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan said during a briefing with journalists after the government meeting on October 23, referring to his statement that the Nubarashen landfill was deliberately set on fire.

“Three processes have taken place. First, the management of the landfill was taken from a private company by the municipality, canceling the contract. Second, two days before the incident, certain individuals spoke about something happening at the landfill soon. Third, the municipality is now installing a full video surveillance system there, imposing restrictions on the entry of various vehicles, and from now on, monitoring in that area will be quite strict,” he said, adding that people are already involved in the case.

When asked about the Japanese company that had previously invested there, Avinyan responded: “The work done by the Japanese company was very important, but one can say it was largely demonstrative and small in scale. It was just an example of how things could operate. The details of what happened, what didn’t happen, and the rest, I would find difficult to explain.”
