Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has appointed Georgi Modebadze as a judge of Georgia’s Constitutional Court, according to Novosti Gruziya, citing the president’s press office.

Since November 2024, Modebadze served as Deputy Minister of Education. Previously, he held positions as senior specialist, manager, and head of the secretariat at the Tbilisi City Court.

The Constitutional Court of Georgia consists of nine judges: three are appointed by the president, three by the Supreme Court, and three are elected by Parliament.

One of the presidential-appointed seats became vacant after Irina Imerlishvili resigned early. She stated she agreed to take the position of rector at a private international university.

Novosti Gruziya notes that in 2024, Imerlishvili did not support the “Georgian Dream” party’s call for the impeachment of President Salome Zurabishvili. Later, however, she agreed with the court’s decision not to consider lawsuits filed by the president and opposition challenging the constitutionality of the 2024 parliamentary elections.
