Starting November 1, the Police Guard, one of the four pillar specialized services of the police, will be launched. It will contribute to strengthening Armenia’s internal security system through a more precise and targeted toolkit.

The structural model of the Police Guard is in its final phase. The scope of the Guard’s functions has been clarified: it will operate as a full-fledged structure, without being the legal successor of any police subdivision.

The main tasks of the Police Guard include maintaining public order and ensuring public safety, protecting key objects under state security, ensuring the safety of transporting special cargo, participating in enforcing the legal regime during martial law and states of emergency, protecting the population in emergencies, assisting in ensuring the security of individuals under special state protection, and supporting law enforcement agencies.

Currently, the retraining process for the Guard’s personnel is actively underway. For the first time, internationally recognized standards for the use of force will be applied with the formation of the Police Guard. Without proper specialized training, a Guard officer will not have the right to use force.

The development of the Guard’s unit structure and acquisition of material and technical resources are in their final stages. Personnel will also receive uniforms tailored to their functions.

Equipped with arms and trained personnel in accordance with international standards, the Police Guard will be responsible for maintaining public order and ensuring public safety.
