In response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s criticism over a Knesset law to annex part of the West Bank while U.S. Vice President James David Pence was in the country, a senior Trump administration official told Times of Israel: “Israel cannot treat us like we’re the Joe Bidens.”

Netanyahu has repeatedly clashed with the administration of former U.S. President Joe Biden, whose term ended in January, accusing the Democratic White House of attempts to alienate Israel for domestic political gain.

The senior U.S. official’s comparison to Biden also recalled a previous clash during the Obama administration in 2010, when, while Vice President Biden was in the city, Israel’s Interior Ministry announced plans to build 1,600 apartments in a Jewish neighborhood in East Jerusalem.
