Georgia has declined to participate in the 12th Ordinary Session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly (PA) to be held on October 28-30 in Yerevan, Armenia, Sputnik Georgia reports.

Levan Makashvili, chairman of the Georgian parliamentary committee on European Integration, sent an open letter to the leadership of Euronest explaining the aforesaid decision.

“The hostile rhetoric of certain Members of the European Parliament and their participation in protests in Tbilisi contradict the principles of mutual respect and abuse the framework of parliamentary diplomacy. Some members of the European Parliament delegation to the Euronest PA have made statements that have incited public unrest, radicalization, and violence in our country, while resolutions and reports continue to ignore the will of the Georgian people expressed through democratic processes.

We are deeply concerned about the decision to invite individuals under the name of ‘civil society’ to the plenary session, despite the fact that they supported recognizing the elections as illegitimate, undermining democratic institutions, and the recent attempt to topple the government in Georgia. By providing a platform to these individuals, Euronest encourages anti-democratic behavior and legitimizes violent or radical political agendas,” reads the letter.
