After a series of Israeli airstrikes overnight and Wednesday morning in the Gaza Strip, the ceasefire was restored at 10 a.m. local time, Israeli military sources report, according to The Times of Israel.

The strikes were carried out in response to violations of the ceasefire by Hamas, including a deadly attack Tuesday on Israeli soldiers in Rafah in southern Gaza, and the group’s refusal to return the bodies of 13 remaining hostages.

On Tuesday evening, the Israeli Air Force carried out a series of strikes in the Gaza Strip, resulting in at least 60 deaths, according to Gaza’s health authorities.

Earlier on Tuesday, a Palestinian attack on Israeli forces stationed in the Rafah area had killed an Israeli reservist, military officials reported Wednesday morning. The attack occurred during the ceasefire that had been in place for several weeks.

In response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) struck several Hamas positions.

According to the IDF’s preliminary investigation, Hamas snipers opened fire at around 3:45 p.m. local time targeting the building used by the Israeli soldiers and a military excavator operating in the Jenin area of Rafah.
