There may be many forces that are not interested in the opening of these communication routes, but in reality, all players will benefit from this project. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this during a discussion, titled “Leadership at the Crossroads,” within the framework of the 8th Paris Peace Forum — and referring to the “Trump Route” project.
“According to the peace declaration adopted in Washington, as a result of the opening of communication routes with Azerbaijan, and we hope that the opening of the borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan will take place within that framework. What will we have in the end? We will have open communication routes between the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, and the Black Sea; we will have new connectivity between the Caspian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea; we will have new opportunities. Armenia will have a railway connection with Iran, a railway connection with Russia, and with Central Asia.
You know what recently happened: Azerbaijan announced that it is lifting all restrictions on transit transportation through its territory toward Armenia. This is a very important statement, and I highly appreciate it, as it is truly a historic decision made by Azerbaijan, and we [i.e. Armenia] value it.
We, in turn, are ready to open our communication routes for Azerbaijan. And I recently announced that we are ready to provide a route for trucks traveling from Turkey to Azerbaijan and from Azerbaijan to Turkey.
I realized that there may be forces that will not be interested in the opening of our regional communication routes. But in reality, this project is beneficial for all players,” the Armenian prime minister declared.
