US President Donald Trump has announced that he is lowering tariffs on China related to fentanyl from 20% to 10%, CNN reports.

Trump made the statement to reporters aboard Air Force One after departing South Korea, where he held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Earlier, the US president had stated that he planned to discuss the issue of Chinese fentanyl imports in the US with Xi and might reach a solution.

And after the meeting, Trump expressed confidence that Xi Jinping will work more diligently to prevent deaths caused by fentanyl.

The Trump administration believes that these tariffs serve as a pressure tool on the Chinese government, compelling Beijing to tighten measures restricting the export of fentanyl and the chemicals used to produce it.
