Toyota has announced plans to introduce its first electric vehicle (EV) with a solid-state battery as early as 2027, Autocar reports.

These batteries differ from conventional lithium-ion batteries in that they use a solid electrolyte instead of a liquid one, making them safer, more durable, and more energy efficient. Toyota promises that the first such EVs will be able to deliver 20% more range on a single charge than current models, and charging from 10% to 80% will take only about ten minutes.

The development of solid-state batteries has been underway for several years, and Toyota acknowledges that the main challenge lies in establishing mass production and ensuring the durability of the new technology.

In the future, Toyota expects even more impressive performance: next-generation batteries could increase driving range by up to 50% and reduce charging time, fundamentally transforming perceptions of speed and convenience in EV driving.

This decision reflects Toyota’s strategy to bring advanced technologies into the EV industry, and demonstrates the company’s commitment not only to keeping up with competitors but also to shaping the future of the industry.
