Armenia will receive financial support of €5 million, which will be directed toward nuclear safety and defense strengthening in the country, Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Minister Davit Khudatyan said at today’s Cabinet session of the government.

Also, Khudatyan presented the draft decision on approving the signing of the funding agreement between Armenia and the European Commission on strengthening nuclear safety and radiation protection in Armenia.

According to the minister, this agreement is a continuation of the 2024 agreement, under which Armenia had already received €12.9 million for the stated purpose — and aimed at managing hydrogen-related accidents and reducing associated risks.

Khudatyan added that the allocated funds have already been used to procure diesel generators, which will be needed if the power supply system fails during an accident.

“The €5 million agreement concerns responding to hydrogen produced in case of an accident, as such,” the minister said.

Part of these funds will be used to acquire equipment for hydrogen combustion. This will be provided to Armenia’s nuclear power pant, while the remaining funding will go to the Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee of Armenia in order to analyze, together with European experts, safety rationalization documents.
