Iran’s foreign minister has announced the appointment of new ambassadors of the Islamic Republic to Armenia and Georgia, ISNA reports.

During a meeting dedicated to economic diplomacy in East Azerbaijan Province of Iran, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi named the country’s new ambassadors to Armenia and Georgia.

Accordingly, Khalil Shirgolami has been appointed as Iran’s ambassador to Armenia, while Ali Mojani will serve as Iran’s ambassador to Georgia.

Shirgolami previously held the position of Director General for Research at the Institute for Political and International Studies of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Prior to this appointment, Iran’s ambassador to Armenia was Mehdi Sobhani.
