A worker trapped under the rubble of a collapsed medieval tower in central Rome has been rescued.

According to ANSA, the 66-year-old man was pulled from the debris after more than 10 hours and taken away by an ambulance.

The Torre dei Conti tower, located in the area of the Imperial Fora, collapsed Monday at around noon local time. It was followed by a secondary collapse.

The tower was undergoing renovation and had been surrounded by fences. Nevertheless, after the collapse, dust spread for tens of meters.

Also, the street was closed to pedestrians.

At the time of the incident, only workers involved in the aforesaid renovation were in the area.
