Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has confirmed that two French citizens imprisoned on security-related charges have been released on bail pending further judicial proceedings, Mehr reports.

Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said on Wednesday that two French nationals previously detained in Iran for security-related offenses have been conditionally released.

“These two French citizens, who were imprisoned for a short period for security-related offenses, have been released on bail by decision of the presiding judge,” Baghaei said in response to reporters’ questions.

He added that both individuals will remain under supervision until the next stage of judicial review.

French President Emmanuel Macron had earlier announced the release of two French citizens from Iran’s Evin Prison. He had added that efforts are underway to ensure their swift return to France.
