The Armenian foreign minister did not specify the opening timeline for the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project.

During the international Orbeli Forum being held in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan was asked a question by a member of an Azerbaijani media outlet. The reporter noted that the Kars-Nakhchivan section and the infrastructure located in Azerbaijan are planned to open by 2028, and asked when the Armenian section will be ready.

The Armenian FM found it difficult to speak about timelines in this regard, but said that “we are literally discussing technical issues with the American side even today,” covering everything from documents to the installation of electronic scanners.

Mirzoyan emphasized that Armenia is interested in the TRIPP project’s prompt launch. “If connection with Nakhchivan is important for you, then unblocking is important for us,” he said.

Also, the Armenian FM recalled that Azerbaijan has lifted its transit blockade of Armenia, calling it “an important tangible step.”

On its part, Armenia is ready to ensure the transit from Turkey to Azerbaijan. In this context, he stressed the importance of opening the Kars-Gyumri road, which will ensure the transit of goods from Europe to the East.

Answering a question from an Iranian representative about the road’s lease periods, the Armenian FM reiterated that what has been agreed upon is published and signed.

He repeated that negotiations are ongoing and technical issues are being discussed. According to him, one option under consideration is a 99-year lease, which is a matter of economic calculations as to how much investment will be made and how many years it will take to repay it. “These issues are being discussed. There is no decision yet; when there will be, we will publicize [it,]” Mirzoyan added.
