Norway has reviewed border control and security measures with Russia and concluded that they need to be modernized, reports Rossiyskaya Gazeta, citing a statement from the National Police Directorate of Norway.

Norway has received approximately 191 million Norwegian kroner (16.4 million euros) to modernize its border with Russia.

These funds will enable significant improvements in external border protection, giving local and national authorities better capabilities to safeguard security and national interests.

An interagency management group has now been established to ensure the implementation of these measures.

The leadership group’s first meeting also included a tour of Skarfjellet, a former border checkpoint between Norway and Russia.

This area will be the first of many phases in modernizing border control in the north, carried out by the Norwegian police and armed forces.
