Yesterday, in a video posted on his Facebook page, politician Arman Babajanyan announced that Donald Trump Jr.’s planned visit to Armenia on Wednesday had been canceled. This was a private visit and had nothing to do with the Armenian authorities, although meetings had been planned, writes Hraparak daily of Armenia.
“Our source claims that after [jailed Russian Armenian businessman and philanthropist] Samvel Karapetyan’s nephew Narek Karapetyan gave an interview to famous American journalist Tucker Carlson, reports about attacks on the Armenian Apostolic Church by Armenia’s authorities caused an uproar in US conservative circles. After Donald Trump Jr. received confirmation, through his sources, of the authenticity of the facts regarding the attacks on the church, he decided to refuse a visit to Armenia and meetings with representatives of the current government.
Let us recall that days ago, reports were circulating that on November 12, the US president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., would visit Armenia. During the visit, the US president’s son was also expected to take part in the so-called prayer breakfast, initiated by [Armenian PM] Nikol Pashinyan and [his wife] Anna Hakobyan, during which Trump Jr.’s meeting with Nikol Pashinyan was also planned,” Hraparak added.
