Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that a Turkish cargo plane crashed in the Sighnaghi town, about 5 kilometers from the Georgian state border, reports Georgia Online.

The agency adds that, according to preliminary data, it was operating a flight on the Azerbaijan-Turkey route.

The investigation is being conducted under Article 275, Section 4 of the Georgian Criminal Code, which concerns violations of flight safety rules or the operation of air transport that resulted in human casualties.

Tabula checked FlightRadar24 data and found that the plane that crashed near the Georgia-Azerbaijan border was a Turkish Air Force military cargo aircraft that had taken off from Ganja airport.
