The opening of the “Zangezur Corridor” will benefit all Central Asian countries, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said in an interview with Uzbekistan’s UzA news agency, APA reports.

“One of the key directions of cooperation between our countries is the development of differentiated transport and logistics infrastructure and the expansion of transit opportunities. In this regard, the participation of our countries in the international transport route Middle Corridor, within which Azerbaijan serves as an important transit country for Uzbekistan and the countries of Central Asia, has special significance. In recent years, the increase of export opportunities and transportation through the Middle Corridor has acquired particular strategic importance,” Aliyev said.

Earlier, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, seeking to dispel Armenian public concern over the phrase “corridor” used by Azerbaijan, put forward the idea that when saying “Zangezur Corridor,” Azerbaijani officials refer to their own infrastructure, for instance, the Horadiz–Zangilan section. Thus, it appears that Yerevan has agreed with the Azerbaijani version regarding the existence of “Eastern Zangezur.”
