Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin on Friday met with Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Russia, Rahman Mustafayev, informed the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

During the talk, they reaffirmed their mutual commitment to continue developing bilateral relations in accordance with the declaration on allied cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan signed in Moscow on February 22, 2022. The schedule of high-level contacts was discussed. The successes in developing bilateral economic cooperation and the importance of fully restoring cultural and humanitarian ties were emphasized.

In addition, the Russian side stressed the need for the swift release of 11 Russian citizens detained in Azerbaijan capital Baku, from June 30 to July 1, as an important step toward normalizing bilateral relations.

Regional issues were also discussed, including Russia’s potential assistance in normalizing Azerbaijani-Armenian relations, based on a series of trilateral agreements reached at the highest level between 2020 and 2022. The uninterrupted functioning of the 3+3 regional cooperation platform was discussed as well, added the Russian MFA.
