A unique Christian-themed sculptured monument has been discovered in Lernahovit village of Armenia’s Lori Province during replacement work on natural gas pipelines.

The construction workers informed about it to the community police officer, who in turn contacted the Service for the Protection of Historical Environment and Cultural Museum-Reservations.

Provincial staff of the aforementioned service were dispatched to Lernahovit to study this monument and clarify details.

The monument, featuring Christian-themed carvings, most likely dates back to the early medieval period. The biblical scene on it gives the monument a special appeal and emphasizes its uniqueness.

Apart from the almost complete single monument, separate fragments were also found.

According to local residents, however, this is not the first case, and previously pottery fragments were found in various parts of Lernahovit. The elderly of the village say that there was also a temple in the area.
