Some Ukraine territory "might be gotten by Russia anyway" over the next couple of months, US President Donald Trump has said, Reuters reports.

He added that Ukraine’s security guarantees are being discussed with Europeans.

Trump had designated Thursday, the US Thanksgiving Day, as the day on which he would like Ukraine to agree to a deal that would end the war Russia is waging in Ukraine.

But later, he backed away from that deadline, saying he would like to reach an agreement as soon as possible.

For him, the deadline expires when all of this is over, the US president had said.
