Under the chairmanship of Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, an assembly of Armenian Apostolic Church bishops and diocesan primates of Armenia was convened Tuesday at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

The assembly discussed the issue of the deliberate omission by certain clergy in recent times of the names of the Catholicos of All Armenians and the diocesan primate during the Divine Liturgy, the Mother See told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The bishops considered this phenomenon condemnable, noting that from an ecclesiological standpoint it is uncanonical and may lead to schism. It was emphasized that such actions are subject to strict punishment if the respective clergyman does not repent and correct his uncanonical conduct in the prescribed manner.

The assembly stressed the importance of clergy refraining from divisive actions and provocations, and of preserving the spirit of unity for the steadfastness and further strengthening of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church.
