Police officers are on duty at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, the governing body of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

A meeting of the Supreme Spiritual Council is in progress at the Mother See. According to information, the matter being discussed is that of the bishops and archbishops who met Thursday with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Reverend Father Asoghik Karapetyan, director of the Mother See’s museums and archives, told Sputnik Armenia that he does not know whether the eight senior clergymen who attended the meeting with Pashinyan are participating in this meeting.

“The meeting will end, and we will know everything,” Karapetyan added.

A statement signed by several Armenian Apostolic Church bishops and archbishops demanding that Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II order Archbishop Arshak Khachatryan, Chancellor of the Mother See, to leave the latter, was disseminated Thursday.

According to that statement, the authenticity of videos involving Archbishop Khachatryan was confirmed through examination.

After that, Nikol Pashinyan announced that he invites the bishops and archbishops to a meeting. And this meeting took place the same day.
