Diplomatic representatives of Armenia and Pakistan are actively working on opening a Pakistan embassy in Armenia, Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned. According to our diplomatic source, the opening of this embassy is planned for next year.

To verify the information regarding the opening of the embassy, Armenian News-NEWS.am sent a written inquiry to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, which did not deny the news.

“By signing a joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Pakistan, the governments of Armenia and Pakistan have agreed to exchange representatives and provide each other with necessary support for the purpose of bringing diplomatic relations to life on the basis of reciprocity in accordance with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and customary international practice. In this context, the public will be duly informed about further developments,” states the official response from the Armenian MFA.

Diplomatic relations between Armenia and Pakistan were established on August 31. On that day, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar in Tianjin, China, during which they signed a joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Pakistan.

But only a few days after establishing diplomatic relations, it became clear that Pakistan had blocked Armenia’s application for membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

It is known that Pakistan is one of the countries that unconditionally supports Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and is a major supplier of weapons to Azerbaijan.

In recent years, Armenia has acquired weapons also from India, with which Pakistan is in conflict.

Time will show how the opening of the Pakistan embassy in Armenia will affect the future development of Armenian-Pakistani and Armenian-Indian relations.
