Mercedes-Benz has published the first images of the new G-Class Cabriolet, which is expected to arrive next year, almost a decade after the last open-top version of the hardcore off-roader was phased out, Autocar reports.

Pictured in Austria, the new soft-top G-Class is undergoing early dynamic road and track tests before heading to Sweden for colder, off-road testing.

The first published photos show that the body retains the characteristic “boxy” proportions of the G-Class, while the hardtop has been replaced with a folding soft top.

This vehicle is expected to be a four-door model, unlike its previous two-door versions, and will likely have the same engines as the standard SUV — a turbocharged inline-six, or a powerful V8.

No launch timing has been disclosed yet, but given it is already testing and is a variant of a model already on sale, an arrival date to coincide with the start of Summer 2026 in Europe — the drop-top season — is plausible.

Details on trim levels, equipment, pricing, and availability are currently limited.

Mercedes-Benz notes that this Cabriolet will be part of the global model range, available in almost all markets, including the US, which will differentiate the new version from the previously rare and limited-edition models.
