The first European Union (EU) mission assessing the implementation of the action plan within the Armenia-EU visa liberalization dialogue is in Armenia. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan on Monday met with the members of this mission, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his remarks, Ghazaryan noted that the multilateral discussions with the relevant agencies will provide an opportunity to receive additional information, which will help form a more complete and in-depth understanding of the submitted documents. The deputy minister of internal affairs of Armenia added that several strategic documents are in the drafting phase.

The parties emphasized the priority of quality in the ongoing processes, stressing that the documents being developed must be comprehensive, viable, and practically applicable, ensuring the effective implementation of reforms.

The members of the mission, highly valuing the constructive partnership with Armenia, emphasized the importance of assessing the progress of meeting the first-stage benchmarks related to the legislative and sectoral policy framework of the action plan.

It was noted that the European Commission’s first report on the action plan is expected to be prepared ahead of the next summit of the European Political Community.

On the same day, the members of the EU assessment mission met with the headship of the Migration and Citizenship Service of Armenia. The head of the Service, Nelli Davtyan, stated that the Migration and Citizenship Service is investing multilateral and consistent efforts toward implementing the Armenia-EU visa liberalization action plan.

The head of the Service presented the points related to the action plan, addressing the policy regulating the sector, the legal framework, newly developed documents, the introduction of the biometric system, data and legal identity protection, integrated border management, the asylum-granting sector, as well as other components of the migration management chain.
