Armenia is ready to collaborate with Azerbaijan. Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, told this to reporters Wednesday.

During a panel discussion held on December 6 in Doha, Hikmat Hajiyev, an aide to the president of Azerbaijan, had stated that Yerevan and Baku were discussing the matter of exporting oil and oil products from Azerbaijan to Armenia. On Tuesday, Georgia’s Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development announced that Georgia will not charge fees for the first transit of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia. And Armenia’s Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, described this charge-free transit of Azerbaijani fuel through Georgian territory as a gesture by Tbilisi dedicated to the peace process.

“There is no need to focus only on oil products; there should be trade in all types of goods. We [i.e. Armenia] are ready for that. The Crossroads of Peace [project of Armenia] and all discussions about peace are precisely about this. It is about all types of goods; wheat was the first. The more alternative sources of energy carriers there are—be it [natural] gas, be it [natural] gas or something else—the better for Armenia. Armenia should benefit from this and provide the opportunity for Azerbaijan also to have its benefit and interest, so that it can have the possibility to export goods to [its] Nakhichevan [exclave] or Turkey through Armenia’s territory,” Simonyan said.
