The Strategic Agenda for the EU-Armenia Partnership reflects the substance of the bilaterally formed and deepening partnership between Armenia and the European Union (EU), based on shared values and mutual interests. Ani Badalyan, spokesperson of the Republic of Armenia Ministry of Foreign Affairs (RA MFA), told this to Armenian News-NEWS.am—and responding to the Azerbaijani MFA statement claiming that the aforesaid Armenia-EU document runs “counter to the overall peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.”

The Armenian MFA spokesperson added as follows: “It reflects not only the European aspirations of the citizens of Armenia, but also the EU’s commitment to supporting [Armenia’s] sovereignty, territorial integrity, democracy, and socioeconomic resilience. It is evident that this in itself only contributes to efforts aimed at further consolidating peace in the region.

Let me add that the strategic agenda for the RA-EU partnership, regarding which the bilateral RA-EU negotiations, by the way, had in principle been completed back in June, also includes our shared vision for the future, which reflects also our joint commitment to strengthening stability, prosperity, and peace in the region.

It is noteworthy that in the joint statement adopted as a result of the RA-EU Partnership Council held on the same day, in addition to support expressed on other occasions, the EU welcomed the historic milestone registered between Armenia and Azerbaijan at the Peace Summit held in Washington this August, including the initialing of the agreement ‘On the establishment of peace and interstate relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.’

The EU has reaffirmed its firm support for the further consolidation and institutionalization of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.”
